Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) is comprehensive R&D institute in the field of nuclear energy stipulated. JAEA sets forth a new vision “Explore a New Future with the Synergy of Nuclear and Renewable” and aims to provide carbon-free energy sources (hydrogen, heat, and electricity) through the development of advanced reactors such as High-Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) in harmonization with renewable energy.
JAEA has been developing HTGR technology, which has a capability to produce a large amount of hydrogen by utilising high temperature heat generated from reactor. HTGR is expected to play a dominant role in the upcoming hydrogen society to realisation of carbon neutrality in hard-to-abate industrial sector by suppling stable, low cost, and large amount of hydrogen.
